About Us

Who We Are

Welcome to The Refuge!

The Refuge Church was started in November 2014 and the Lord provided a great location for us. We are right in the heart of the community where He has called us to serve. The church was started for the purpose of being an outreach center. We have been able to serve from our location, offering such things as a clothes closet, food pantry, and back to school bash with shoes and school supplies. We have also had the opportunity to go out in the community and serve at local hotels, schools, apartment complexes, etc.

Our moto here at the Refuge Church is Big God! Big Love! Big Things! It’s pretty simple, but we believe we serve a great, big God that is the creator of all things (Psalm 86:10). He is the One and Only God but yet is not too busy to care about even the smallest details of our life (Luke 12:7). That’s right, He is a personal God that is madly in love with you. Because of His great love for us, we are challenged to love big (I John 4:19). Not just love Him big, but love others big as well. When we walk with a big, loving, active God, there is no reason for us to not expect big things (Philippians 4:13).

Worship With Us

The dress is casual and the music is contemporary. We believe that our time of worship together should be an uplifting experience. Worshiping a loving, Almighty God can often be an emotional experience and we encourage freedom in worship while understanding that everything must be done in order. We understand that people express worship in different ways and whether you are more lively or more subdued, it’s okay to be you.

We believe in sharing the Word of God. 2 Timothy 3:16 says “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right.” The Bible is our standard for truth and the messages you hear at The Refuge will not vary from the truth we find in scripture but will be relevant to our lives today.

We believe in having a time to respond to what the Holy Spirit has spoken to each individual. Whether it means coming down to the altar or at your seat, it is important to take some time and respond to what God is speaking into your life and allow Him to do what He wants to do in your life.

Living Life Together

We believe that being a part of a church is more than just attending a Sunday morning worship service. We want to live life together. We encourage a SWAT approach. SWAT stands for Sunday Worship And Two. What that means is that in addition to attending Sunday worship, we encourage each person to be involved in at least two other areas. One should be a ministry opportunity where you can pour out what God has poured into you and the other should be a relationship building opportunity. We need each other and building bonds with other believers is important to our spiritual health and growth.

We try to offer many different ways for people to fulfill these two additional connection points. Check out the various ministry outreaches we are involved in as well as the service opportunities within the church such as greeters, ushers, teachers, assistants, etc. And our Life Groups, which meet once a month in homes, are a great way to build relationships in a smaller group setting. You can also get involved in one of the Wednesday night Bible studies.

What We Believe

We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. Written by men but under the supernatural leading of the Holy Spirit. It is our basis for truth and making right decisions.

We believe in one eternal God who is the creator of everything. God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit all together are the one true God.

We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and freely offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for all of our sin. He was crucified, buried, and rose from the dead after three days demonstrating his victory over sin and death. He is the only way to eternal life and reconciliation with God.

We believe that salvation is available for everyone and happens when we accept Christ’s sacrifice for our sin and make Him Lord of our lives. That means we no longer live for ourselves but strive to live in the holiness of Jesus Christ.

We believe that a Christian’s life should show the fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-23. We also believe that God gives spiritual gifts to each person for them to grow in and to use for the benefit of the church. Examples of these gifts are found in I Corinthians 12 and Romans 12.

We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit as a separate experience available to all after receiving salvation. We believe this experience brings additional power for sharing the gospel and for living victoriously. We believe that the ability to pray in an unknown language given by the Holy Spirit also accompanies this experience.

We believe that each person was designed to be part of a local body of believers. Each person has their place in the body and we all need each other to fulfill the purpose of church here on earth. Namely, to spread the message of the gospel and to help one another grow into the maturity of Christ.

We believe in following the Lord Jesus in water baptism by immersion and by partaking in the Lord’s Supper (also called Communion).

We believe that Jesus Christ is coming back again just as he promised he would. No one knows exactly when that will be but the Bible gives us signs to know when it is near. We should live like it will happen any day.

We believe that man is an eternal being and will spend eternity in either a perfect Heaven or a cursed Hell based on solely or whether or not they have accepted Christ’s gift of salvation.
